The Australian education and training system can be divided into six sectors:

English Colleges - Vocational Colleges - Technical Institutes - Universities - High Schools - Online learning

Entry Requirements

Each Education and Training Sector has its own entry pre-requisites. Most application forms will ask you to provide information such as:

Details of all previous study, including copies of qualifications already received by you.

Which course you are applying for, plus your second and third preferences.

Evidence of your proficiency in English language.

The name of a person who will pay your education fees To pay an application fee when you lodge the form.

How To Apply in Australia

Applying to enter Australia and an Institution

1. Obtain detailed information about study opportunities in Australia by completing our 'Send me information' form

2. Read the information received and decide upon an institution and course. Complete all application forms. Your preferred agent or institution will advise you what documentation you will need to prepare, and whether you will be required to take an English language proficiency test.

3. Indicate which Visa you intend to apply for on your application form. There are 3 main types of visas with various conditions with regard to study:
Tourist Visa:

Allows study for up to 12 weeks, in cases where study is not the main purpose of the visit.

Working Holiday Visa:
Allows study for up to 12 weeks.

Student Visa:
Student visa eligibility and conditions of entry vary from one country to another. Once granted your visa will be issued for the duration of your course, plus four weeks extra after the course finishes. All student Visa holders must pay for Overseas Student Health Cover, to cover the costs of any medical or hospital treatment needed during your stay in Australia.

4. Contact your nearest Australian Embassy or Consulate and request information on how to apply and pay for your chosen visa. For a student visa you must have a medical examination and chest x-ray. Special forms will be provided for the doctor to complete.

5. Mail or fax, your chosen College enrolment form to your preferred agent or institution. They will post or fax an invoice advising you of the amount of fees you will need to pay. If you are successful the institution will send you an enrolment letter and invoices.

6. Pay your tuition fees. You can make your payment by either Bank Cheque or telegraphic transfer to your preferred agent or directly to the school. Fax the school a copy of your bank receipt to show that your fees have been paid.

7. When applying for a Student Visa, the school will email a Confirmation of Enrolment Form (COE) to the Australian Embassy at which you are applying.

8. Apply for a Visa. You should ask the Embassy staff how long it will take to process your visa application, and then make flight reservations accordingly. You may also be asked to visit an Australian Diplomatic Mission for an interview as part of the visa process. If your Visa Application is rejected, all tuition fees will be refunded in full. If successful, you will get a "multiple entry" visa allowing you to travel backwards and forwards to Australia within the period for which it has been granted.

9. If airport pick-up is required, please advise your school or agent your flight details - airline, flight number, and time of arrival.
